so this guy i know told his best friend to give up on his dream job because he sucks at it. they both do the same kind of work. is it his duty as 'best friend' to encourage and help his buddy be better or is he right to tell him to stop?

This is such a tough one.I think a good friend needs to be able to find the balance between encouragement and sharing the truth.. Anyway, sometimes it is easier to swallow harsh reality coming from a friend, but maybe there are better ways to "help" a friend out of a dead-end career then telling them they suck at it..
